Writing from the heart...Ode to the North
Oh the North at night is a beautiful sight When the green fire flames overhead And the snow sets to gleaming Like anything, seeming Like crystalline tears being shed The stars shine so bright—what a cascade of light Sky diamonds matching the snow Though the cold may be bitter The icicles glitter A beauty that few people know Behind the black silhouette of a thousand trees set Against that God’s-fire sky Somewhere on the trails A lonesome wolf wails The song of the North is his cry Where mountains of stone, like some old god’s bones Score Heaven’s floor with their peaks It’s the land of the lost And whatever the cost The Northman will find what he seeks Be it refuge or solace or beauty that calls us To the great white expanse where we roam We love to be free So it’s easy to see That the North will forever be home. -Dale Barks |
